Through her poems, letters and journal excerpts, author Carol Nordman tells the true story of living abroad as she steps into God's calling and gives up "the good life" to become a missionary.
In God, My Rock, she illustrates God's promises, goodness, and faithfulness and tells how she; her husband, Vance; and eventually their children encounter and overcome the secret police, political instability, economic collapse, events of the last days of the Cold War, illness, and giving birth in a foreign hospital among other challenges. Nordman provides glimpses of her day-to-day life raising and traveling with three children on the mission field in Turkey, Egypt, the Philippines, Russia, Europe, and Japan.
This memoir chronicles the family's surprising cultural adjustments, both abroad and upon returning to the United States. The stories span Nordman's life from finding God in her teenage years, being a UCLA student and serving as a single missionary for five years before marrying at the age of twenty-six. She shares the great adventure of following God's call and watching him work powerfully to bring people into his kingdom by personally knowing his son, Jesus.

Such an engaging read and window into the incredible adventure trusting and following in God's leading, His unfailing provision, and His benevolent love for His children who trust completely in Him. I have learned so much from their experience....very relevant and useful for our uncertain times ahead.

To see God's hand working in Carol and her family's life especially during the difficulties is so encouraging!

This book is authentic and sincere. As someone who knew Carol when these events happened, I can say that she has always been a woman of faith. Her trust in God was always so evident and her consistent faith was a blessing to all around her. Still, the book is about God, and not about Carol, and points to a loving, trustworthy Father.

An excellent book written by a Christian woman in a series of short vignettes. Recommend for people searching to find their faith. Read it in spurts or all at once. It is enjoyable either way.

A wonderful read! The subtitled, Faith Adventures of a Missionary Mom, is an accurate description of what the author, Carol Nordman, has experienced in life. This book is filled with many thought-provoking and entertaining short stories revealing how God's often hidden plan makes perfect sense looking back. I highly recommend this true accounting of how God's provision, protection and promises were made manifest in the life of the author, Carol Nordman.
